Hatter Street Bakehouse & Cafe

Hatter Street Bakehouse & Cafe derives its name from the character Mad Hatter in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It is a new addition to Singapore dessert cafe which offers Artisanal desserts and coffee at Hougang heartland.

Striking hot pink signboard which makes it clearly visible along the road.

Dessert and beverages menu written on the wall

Display of freshly made cakes, tarts, macarons and brownies.

Oh-My-天 ($7.50) - Omg! Outstanding presentation with traces of Oreo from top till bottom of this dessert. Comprising of  Cookies & cream brownie topped with Oreo ice cream and Oreo cookies. Brownie is warm and moist and certainly fuse well with the melting ice cream on top. However, both brownie and ice cream are too sweet which makes this dessert sugar overwhelming.

'Whoa' ffles ($8.90) - The highlight of this dessert cafe! This waffle definitely deliver its 'Whoa' effect which makes me ascertain this as one of the top waffle in Singapore. An awkward yet genius combination of pandan ice cream with gula melaka drizzled generously on top of the crisps and moist waffle makes wonder. Every part of the dish was perfect. Given a chance to have this waffle again, i would want to have an entire one on my own. All waffle ice cream lover should not give this a miss. Other choice of combination includes vanilla ice cream with salted caramel or chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce.

Indoor and outdoor seats available. Payment by cash only.

Verdict: 4/5
Price: $8

Pin Si Restaurant (Yishun Safra)

Pin Si Restaurant (Yishun Safra)

Recently went to Pin Si restaurant for my parent birthday celebration. Initially thought there won't be much people for a sunday dinner since this is located in Safra. But i was wrong, there are actually alot of reservations on the list and people are streaming in before 7pm. We order their 10 pax set dinner which cost at $398++. This does not include drinks or rice. If you are a safra member, you get to enjoy 10% off the bill which is quite worth it as you get to earn points for your safra card too. Btw, they can keep your birthday refrigerated, and the staff are willing to help you if you are planning a birthday surprise.

Mixed meat starter - Include roasted duck, Ngoh Hiang, spicy jellyfish, Char Siew and egg platter. The meats are warm and tasty when chew. The Duck meat are thick and tender, not overcooked like what you usually get to eat in a chinese restaurant which no effort are made when roasting the duck. The Ngoh Niang are made of prawn and pork, moist and crispy. I really like this dish, simple and delicious.

Fish maw soup

Steam grouper - Steam fish are always the best when they are fresh. Totally do not need any additive to make it tasty. Wonderful fish. The meat is really soft and fresh.

Ma Po Tofu - Crispy on the outside, nice and soft on the inside. The Tofu are mixed with egg to give a more stable texture so that it wont break off easily. At the same time, it is so tasty that i dont even have to dip into the sauce for extra flavour.

Ma Po Tofu sauce - A bit spicy and sour, use to dip the tofu

Garlic steam prawn with vermicelli - One thing i really like is the chopped garlic that are sprinkled on top of the prawns. It really making it very fragrant. Since this dish are cooked by steaming, the vermicelli really soak up the prawn broth which taste delicious. i can just have the vermicelli alone without any garnish.

Stir fried vegetable with scallops - Crispy vegetables and not overly cooked. There are still crunchiness.

Cabbage with Sea cucumber - Starchy broth but super big piece of sea cucumbers

Fried noodle - Colourful presentation, tasty too

Golden Pumpkin with Yam Paste dessert -  Sweet but not that fantastic.

Operation hour:
Daily: 11am - 2.30pm , 6.30pm - 10.30pm
Last Order:
2pm (Lunch), 10pm (Dinner)

Contact number: 6852 8933

Verdict: 3.5 / 5

Price: $40+ per pax

I must say i really enjoy eating here. The food presented and served are really nice and delicious. I especially like the steam prawns and fish. Since steaming of these seafood really depend on the freshness of the seafood itself, i have no doubt on that after eating them.

Service is fast, usually the next dish will serve after we had finished eating the previous dish. However, staff is not attentive to the requirement for refill of drink, we have to refill our tea ourselves frequently. In addition, the plates are not changed, we used it throughout the whole course.

Price is abit steep, for the same price i can get buffet for dinner. But its the quality of the food that count right? I will still be back again if there is a chance.

Hua Kee Rojak and BBQ Seafood - Pasir Panjang Food Centre

Hua Kee Rojak and BBQ Seafood

If you have been t Pasir Panjang food center, you should have known that there are alot of stalls selling seafood. Hence, i am recommending this particular stall, Hua Kee. There are lots of variety of seafood to choose from, stingray to clams to fish to prawns. The food is especially tasty compare to the rest. Recommend all to try.

Mee Goreng ($10) - Hmm, if you have eaten this before, you know that typical mee goreng are just spicy and dry, sometimes you can just taste the strong yellow mee taste. However, this is actually taste sweet and spicy, abit of limey taste which enhance the Mee goreng flavours. Whats more, seafood mee goreng!!! Seafood such as prawns and squids are cooked together. The dish is big enough for 2-3 person to share.

Ngoh Hiang, Wu Xiang, ($10) - At first i thought it will be like the shape of what others are seling, round small circle shape of Ngoh Hiang. But it turn out to be big and cut into a oval shape. The Ngoh Hiang consist of various meats like minced pork and prawn and vegetables and other ingredients, which are then rolled inside a beancurd skin and deep-fried. It is served with in house-special sweet sauce.

Just by eating this alone is already very delicious. The meat is well marinated and juicy. Dipped into the sweet sauce to try out different combination between the ngoh hiang and the sauce.

BBQ Stingray ($10) - Hot, hot and hot!! Very spicy chili sauce on top of the BBQ stingray. However, i still like it alot. The stingray is juicy and not over cooked. Dipped in their sweet and sour sauce to reduce the spiciness if you cant take so spicy food.

Verdict: 3 / 5

Price: $10 onwards

This is one of the popular food center for seafoods and after work dinner place. Alot of variety of food selection for you can be found from this stall. I especially like the food here although it maybe a bit expensive if you are eating alone. Come with some friends and share this wonderful food.

Chinatown Food Street (Singapore)

Chinatown Food Street -Smith Street

The new and refreshed Chinatown Food Street now welcome all visitors with specialty local dishes from the 4 different races in Singapore. Located on Smith Street, which is the heart of Chinatown, the look create the most authentic Singapore dining experience for locals and tourists .Iconic food such as satay to hokkien mee from all local cultures are all situated at one street which is convenient for all.

Visitors now can enjoy al-fresco dining style along the street. New high-ceiling glass canopy shelter and  cooling system allow diners enjoy themselves fully on the food available here regardless of rain or shine. The  street hawker stalls operate as an ad hoc street kiosks with full cooking equipment.

Maxwll road Soon Soon Popiah, spring roll ($2.50) - usual ingedients like bangkwang (turnip), garlic, roasted peanuts and beansprouts. Pale in taste compare to other stalls

Katong Kean Kee Fried Oyster ($8/$10) - Crispy and not very oily. Big fat Oyster is fresh and not stinky. Long queue for this stall but i do not find this dish worth queuing.

Tiong Baru Meng Kee Roast Duck set ($10) - Normal to me, the roasted meat is nice

Fried Carrot cake ($4) - Black version is sweet, not over cooked but be prepared to queue as there are alot of customers for this stall. Take note to order and pay for your food first before queuing.

Fried Hokkien Mee ($5/$8) - Moist and tasty. Broth is flavourable and taste of prawn. The noodle really soak up all of the prawn broth making this dish very delicious. recommended for this dish

Drink stall - Expensive drinks sold here. Sugercane sell at $2.50 per cup, isnt this expensive??

Opening hours: daily 11am -11pm

Verdict: 3 / 5

As a local, i strongly do not recommend this place here as there are really alot of better stalls and better quality food out there. The quality of food here is really not worth the price as the price is really steep. But for a tourist, this place is where you can really taste a variety of well-known food in Singapore. Rather than travelling all around Singapore just to have a taste of local cuisine, come here and tour around, it may have what you have been looking for.
