Long Phung Vietnamese Restaurant - Joo Chiat Road (Singapore)

(This photo is taken after 3pm when the queue had already subsided.. LOL)

An authentic Vietnamese Restaurant, Long Phung, located at Joo Chiat road serves quality food at affordable price. The restaurant is popular with locals and the foreigners as well. The queue is quite long when i reached there at 2pm and i had to wait 15mins to get a seat.

Their specialty is Pho Dac Biet - Sliced beef noodle which i had heard so many people talking about it

Restaurant is full even after 2pm. My goodness.......

Vietnamese Spring Roll (Small $7) - 4 spring rolls wrapped with vermicelli, vegetables, bean sprouts, sliced prawn and pork. The rolls are extremely fresh and crunchy. The vermicelli is used instead of turnip which we usually see from the chinese spring roll version. The softness of the vermicelli in this spring roll is wonderful. The vegetables and bean sprouts adds crunch to the spring roll and if you are a meat eater like me, there are prawn and pork slices wrapped together too.

Dipped into the sweet brown sauce with peanuts bits for extra flavors and crunch.

Chicken noodle soup ($6.50) - The clear broth is fantastic! It is tasty and not salty. Lots of garlic, onions and bones must have used to create this wonderful broth. The broth is not oily and with the Pho (kueh tiao noodle), it is simply delicious. Generous portion of vegetables and garnish. Really a comfort food!

Grilled Pork Vermicelli ($8.50) - Slightly more expensive dry noodle but it comes with fried spring roll and grilled pork chop. A bowl of slightly sweet syrup is given to add in the mixture for easy mixing. Lots of ingredients such as fried onions, peanuts, bean sprouts, cucumber and cabbage are added into the vermicelli as well. The dish itself taste superb. The syrup makes this dish slightly sweet which make it very appetizing and refreshing. The amazing part is the fried spring rolls and pork chop which are fresh, not oily and goes well with the other ingredients. Really a must try dish.

Soup Stock Tokyo - 3rd outlet @ 313 sommerset

Opening the 3rd outlet in Singapore, 313 sommerset, Soup Stock Tokyo offer their specialty in an easily accessible place.

Around 50 seats available for customers in this outlet

Yes, Soup stock Tokyo offer a small bowl of soup and a choice of either bread or rice. Well i chosen the Double Soup set so that i can have another soup to taste!! Each set come with a drink too.

The soups are presented in white paper mug-shaped bowls with a wooden tray which give off a clean and earthly feeling. Even the tables and chairs are wooden, i cant help but feeling that i am dining in with nature.

The bread serve is fluffy and soft. I especially like the flakiness after tearing it into pieces.

I had chosen Hokkaido Crab Bisque and Chicken & Vegetable soup for my double set. The Hokkaido Crab Bisque is the type of typical soup that will make you dip your breads in and eat with it. With its thick and creamy texture, the combination give off a unique seafood taste. Simply wonderful.

Chicken and Vegetable  - This is a form of comfort food for me. The soup is lightly flavored but you can taste the natural sweetness of the chicken meat and cabbage. This help to balance off the heavy food that i had for Hokkaido Crab Bisque.

Opening Hours
Monday to Friday / 10:00am - 10:00pm
Saturday and Sunday / 10:00am - 11:00pm

Other Locations: Asia Square Tower 2 & 100AM @ 100 Tras Street,

Verdict: 3.5 /5

I will give it a 3.5 points as these are really comfort food for everyone. Presentation of food is very earthly and natural. You can really find calmness for the food serve here.

Seow Choon Hua Restaurant - Bugis/ Beach Road

Along the stretch of shophouses near Haji Lane, there is this nostalgic old style coffeeshop selling Foo Chow delights for many years. Of course, one of the highlight is the Foo Chow fishballs which many of us are familiar with. All the Foo Chow fishballs and dumplings here are handmade from fish paste, which is a very uncommon practice to find in Singapore.

On the menu: Red wine chicken soup, Foo Chow fishballs and dumplings noodles, yam abacus and fried rice cake.

Red Wine Chicken Mee Sua ($5.00) - I totally enjoyed this bowl of red wine chicken soup. Soup was just nice, neither too thick nor oily. Flavouring was acceptable, not as heavy as its reddish appearance. Broth was lightly absorbed by the mee sua which makes it a perfect combination to eat with. Chicken meat was tender as well. However, raddish was undercook.

Foo Chow Combination ($5.00) - A bowl of combination ingredients which includes foo chow fishballs, pork dumplings and fish dumplings. Fishball is irregular in shape and totally not bouncy like the usual machine-made fishballs. However the portion of fishpaste is little, thus makes the fishball taste slightly starchy instead of bouncy. Dumplings were good, thinly wrapped with minced pork and fish. Mee pok noodles were tossed in braised black soya sauce (lor chap) which makes the springy noodles very flavoured.

Well marinated minced pork within a foochow fishball

Verdict: 3.5/5

Rather than usual brunch along the Haji lane area, do come for a filling bowl of authentic foochow fishball noodle for a change.

You Peng Fresh Mian Jiao Zi Guan (Woodlands) (CLOSED)

You Peng Noodle Dumpling House (CLOSED)

I visited this outlet at woodlands Blk 325 coffeeshop for dinner, knowing that they have another outlet at Beauty world which serve delicious food. Upon reaching, there are only 3-4 staffs in this stall, mostly making dough or wrapping the dumpling. All the dumplings are handmade which quite impress me as i seldom see coffeeshop food which are handmade from scratch.

Most of the food that they sell are what we can find in chinese restaurant, example are Xiao Long Bao, Guo Tie (Fried dumpling) etc. The price are quite reasonable which are less than $10.

Xiao Long Bao ($7) - 10 exquisite Handmade Xiao Long Bao for only $7!! This is a real bargain! The dumplings are skillfully made which show how experience the chef are. Flour thickness is just right as the dumpling skin do not get tear when you pick up with your chopsticks.

The juice immediately splashed out when you took a bite at the dumpling. It is overflowing with juice of the meat. The meat is tasty and well marinated. Obviously the dumplings are made fresh. Generously amount of meat wrapped in the dumpling. Really love it!!!

Look!! The juice is still flowing out to my spoon after taking a bite.

Zha Jiang Mian (Special Sauce noodle) $3.80 - Mixture of minced meat and mushroom sauce pour over a bowl of Handmade noodle. This is the Zha Jiang Mian (Special sauce noodle). The sauce itself already contain lots of minced meat and mushrooms. The taste is a bit salty but at the same time tasty. As the noodle is plain in taste, by mixing the whole dish together help to even out the saltiness and you get to taste the meat and mushroom. Texture of the noodle is soft, easy to chew and swallow. Sliced cucumber are added in to increase the crunchines.

Mix the whole dish evenly.

Guo Tie (Fried Dumpling) $6 - Only one side of the dumpling are fried crispy, the dumplings are huge in size, quite alot of filling. The skin is abit oily due to the frying but it is crispy as well. Dipped with vinegar which goes well with it

Surprisingly, the fried dumpling is juicy as well. This is my first time eating such fried dumpling which is moist inside. The one which I mostly eaten are dry and deep fried. But this is different. The fried dumpling filling is the same as the Xiao Long Bao and the skin of the dumpling are just right, crispy and at the same time chewy.

Around $18 both 2 pax for dinner, i think it is worth it. I actually wanted to order sour & spicy soup but they are sold out....

Verdict: 4/5

Price: Less than $15

The food is freshly made and delicious. The quantity is a real bargain. I will certainly recommend this stall to all of you to try.

I like both the fried dumpling and Xiao Long bao. Both are juicy and the filling are tasty. Try putting the whole piece in your mouth and experience the exploding of juice in you mouth.

Pancakes on the Rocks - Darling Harbour

Pancakes on the rock is a cafe located in Harbourside Shopping Centre, Darling Harbour.

There are many branches of this restaurant and we visited the one at the basement of Harbourside Shopping Centre. Queue starts to form as early as 6pm. The crowd include the locals, office workers as well as the tourist.

Lots of seating place

Chicken & Bacon Pizza ($17.95) - Thin crust pizza with generous mixture of chicken breast, bacon, tomato, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese on top of it. It was a very big piece of pizza, good for sharing on the table.

Devils Delight ($14.95) - A stack of 3 chocolate pancakes topped with a scoop of chocolate ice cream, chopped bananas and strawberries, and drizzled with chocolate sauce all over. Pancakes are thick, fluffy and served warm. The generous serving of fruits are large and fresh as well. Portion is big enough to be share among at least 4 people. It would be too sweet and sick to finish all by oneself.

Beef Crepes ($15.95)  - thin layer of crepes filled with minced beef and topped with cream and tomato paste. Minced beef is nicely marinated and the crepes is not that oily. I don't really like the cream but the tomato paste is delicious, sweet and savoury

Verdict 3/5

Overall satisfactory with the food and environment. Serving of all dishes were big and very filling. Food was palatable though not outstanding.
There is another branch nearby at The Rocks which opens 24hrs everyday, so you can have pancakes anytime of the day!
