Ho Seng Kee - 何成記 云吞面 (City Square)

The famous Restoran Ho Seng Kee in Taman Century had set up another branch near to the causeway in City Square mall, level 6.

The price is alot higher than their shop at Taman Century, handmade egg noodle is still available here too

Homemade Barley drink - slightly sweet, taste great

I ordered their dry wanton noodle with black sauce and chilies. The noodles are springy and texture are just nice. Quite generous with the cha siew and wantons

After mixture look

Soup prawn dumpling noodle, egg noodle is used too in this version. Rather disappointing in the prawn dumplings. It is not as filling compare to other shops that selling wanton. Rather small prawns are used and mixed with pork.

We ordered wanton soups, the wantons are filled with pork meat only instead of a mixture of ingredients. But taste the filling taste sweet nonetheless

Verdict: 3/5

Quite expensive and the standard of the wantons & prawn dumplings does not justify the price.

Fish Ball Noodle Kedai Makanan Sang Heng 甡兴 (Johor baru)

Kedai Makanan Sang Heng 甡兴

This small little shop have been around for many years already. They serve old school fish ball noodle.

Cooked by this old uncle, he is the master of cooking the noodle and its broth. All his ingredients are available just beside his stove. One by one, the uncle cooked with his both hands and the experience that he had accumulated throughout the years.

Lao Shu Fen soup - Musky soup with lots of ingredients such as Sliced fish cake, pork ball, fish ball, minced pork and prawns. Of course, pork lard are added in, if not where to find the old school taste? ! The soup is surprising tasty and nice. The fishballs are handmade, they are springy and at the same time enough to give me a solid feeling. Tingle of sweetness too. Pork balls are fresh and do not have the stinky aftertaste.

Dry version - Same ingredients used, sliced fish cake, pork ball, fish ball, minced pork and prawns

Although the dry version do not have the soup to enhance the taste, but the noodle and ingredients are already very tasty. The broth that are used to cook the noodle and ingredients must be super tasty to provide such a taste.

Address: 7 Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, Johor Bahru Town (next to OCBC JB branch)
Hours: Daily 7:00am to 1:00pm (closed on Saturdays)

Verdict 4 / 5
Price: RM 5

Nice old school feeling and flavour that i get to experience again which i cannot find that in Singapore anymore. Delicious noodle prepared by the uncle. I will come back again.

Long queue during weekends morning and the waiting time is very long.

搵到食 Wen Dao Shi Dim Sum

搵到食 Wen Dao Shi - Sims Avenue

Wen Dao Shi is a famous cantonese dim sum eatery at Geylang which is frequently filled up by dinner and supper crowds.

Prawn Rice Roll 虾肠粉 ($3.80) - Rice roll was nice and smooth and comes with a special sauce which is not too sweet.

Big Prawn Dumpling ($4.80) -  As the name suggest, these dumplings was filled with large and juicy fresh prawns, wrapped with thin skin.

Liu Sha Bao 流沙包 ($4) - Though it was written as liu sha bao on the menu, it was in fact an effortless mini bite-size custard bun which contain corn paste. There was no traces of salted egg yolk or butter taste and the filling was not oozing. The bun suits the children but not for those who are looking for flowy liu sha bao. Coffeeshop serves better custard bun.

Thai-style Fried Crab Dong Fen 干炒泰式 冬粉螃蟹 ($18) - One of the signature must order dish when you are here. Broth was fully absorbed by the glass noodles and it was full of garlic fagrance. Unlike usual Thai glass noodles which was stir fried with brown sauce and starchy, this version of crab glass noodles was one of the best i have tried that is less oily, not starchy and not sticking together towards the end. Crab was fresh and juicy too. The serving was just nice to be shared between 2 to 3.

I would certainly visit this dim sum eatery again as the selection is dim sum is very extensive and there is some popular items that I have yet to try. Do drop by early to avoid the supper crowd.
