根叔美食世家 - Toa Payoh

Owned and managed by a family from Hong Kong. Chef himself made authentic Hong Kong Dim Sum and other dishes that are on par with those that are sold in Hong Kong. Located at the heartland of Toa Payoh market, long queue can be seen from this small hawker stall early in the morning. Recommended to come here before 12pm to avoid disappointment as food gets sold out fast.

Yam Cake with Preserved Meat ($2.20 small)

This handmade steamed yam cake has very smooth and mashy texture that melt in your mouth. It can be easily scooped with your spoon like eating mash potatoes. Traces of yam cubes could be found within the cake, adding on to the texture of it. Fried onions and sesame seeds are sprinkled on top as garnish.

The brown sauce is sweet, the kind that you can find outside. Wonderful combination.

Glutinous Chicken Rice (Lo Mai Kai) ($3.00)

The long shaped glutinous rice is filled with delicious chicken meats, mushroom, salted egg yolk and Lup Cheong (Chinese sausage). Salted egg yolk and Lup cheong mixed with soft glutinous rice give out aromatic fragrant and yet dancing around with my taste buds. Totally love this dish as the glutinous rice is done just right, not too sticky or lumpy.

Fried Bee Hoon ($2.20 small)

Surprising this fried bee hoon is rather tasty. It is not dry but quite moist. The bee hoon is fried with ikan bilis broth, which enhance its taste, together with vegetables.

Prawn Dumpling ($3.00 for 3)

The dumplings are fully packed with prawns, slices of mushroom, carrots and minced meat. Tasty with juicy fillings which i can't stop myself from having more. Really must try!!!

Gossip 港是讲啡 - Serangoon

Gossip 港是讲啡 - Serangoon

Craving for Hongkong style Cha Chan Ting? Well, now you don't need to travel all the way to Hong Kong. Introducing Gossip cafe, 港是讲啡, located at Serangoon garden. This cafe sells food that you can find in a Hongkong cafe. From instant noodle to fried rice to western food. All you can find can be found.

Curry Fishball ($6.50) - Similar curry fishballs but different colour. The balls here are more towards orange than yellow but it really have that curry taste if you ever eat before along the streets of Hongkong. I guess this is really close to the original recipe.

Pork Chop with rice ($6.80) - Large piece of pork chop in mushroom sauce serve with rice and egg. Pretty normal presentation and taste.

Cheese Fries ($5.80) - Yum Yum, cheese and mayonnaise combination with fries are really tasty

Hk Cart Tom Yum Noodles ($6.80) - Well, does this bring some of the memories back if you ever eaten noodles in Hong kong before? This is something similar to that, a piece of ham with sausages and egg over the instant noodle. Noodles are very springy while the tom yum taste is strong. Pretty much close to the original.

Tom Yum Noodles ($6.80) - You can to choose your sides. Selections include pork chop, chicken chop or luncheon meats.

Luncheon meat

Chicken chop

Pork chop

Verdict: 3/5
Price: $14 per pax

Address: 87 Serangoon Garden Way, Singapore 555983
Opening Hours: 12pm till 2am
Tel: 62854319

Well, i guess this is considered normal pricing. The concept is similar to the already long standing cafes like Xin Wang. Hence, not much of an excitement or surprise you can find here. Food taste normal, maybe for another chill out place or lunch time get together option for you to choose.

Hkc - Asian Restaurant (Serangoon Nex) - CLOSED!!!!!!

Hkc

HongKong style cafe serving asian dishes. The cafe is located in Serangoon Nex, level 1, hence it is very easy to find.

Milk Tea - Smooth and nice to drink. The Milk and tea proportion is balance.

Double Roast Set C

Duck meat and Char Siew meat - The Char Siew is chunky and soft, very tasty too. Duck meat is ok.

Curry Pork Chop Rice

Chicken Noodle Clay Pot - Full of ingredients, mushrooms, Tao Pok, cabbages and Chicken meat

Tasty but the sauce is a bit sweet. Noodle is over cooked and very soft. Chicken meat is small and alot of bones. Overall still acceptable.

Chicken & Mushroom Clay pot Rice - recommended for 2 serving.

Verdict: 3.5 / 5

Price: $10++

Food taste ok, nothing surprising. But price is abit steep. Service is slow especially for the claypot rice, waiting time is around 20 mins. But this info was informed before ordering hence still acceptable. Place is clean and accessible.

Canton-i 香港粥面家

Canton-i (香港粥面家)

Canton-I serve authentic Hong Kong cuisine with a wide selection of food such as handmade dim sum, congee and roasted duck. There are no outlet in Singapore, but you are recommended to go to the nearest outlet at City Square Johor Baru to try their food.

See how pack it was during weekend

Wonton Mee - Full pack wonton with a few prawns and mince pork. Fantastic taste. The noodle is very springy and chewly. Broth tasty, you will not feel disappointed on this dish.

Pig intestine Congee - The pig intestines are fried till crispy and are to pour over the congee. You can choose to have the fried intestine eaten crunchy or soft after mixing. Congee have a mixture of other ingredients such as pork and slice fish, making this dish a whole lot of variety in a bowl.

Fishball Noodles - Fishballs are big, bouncy and chewy. Broth is the same soup base as the wonton mee.

Salmon Skin - Fresh, crispy and serve warm salmon skin being served, not like other F&B outlets which serve cold salmon skin. This dish taste great and the skin are not oily.

From Top to bottom: Wu Hua Rou (five flower/pattern pork), Char Siew, Sliced Tou fu.
This is a combination dish, you can select a variety of other selections such as duck meat. The pork meat is tender and juicy. Char Siew are barbecued using their own special sauce, making the meat tastier and unique. There is a bit of burnt taste, that the unique point!! Tou fu was sliced thinly but firm. The toufu simply melt in your mouth, you dont have to chew at all. A must try dish.

Roasted Duck - Crispy skin, tender duck meat with special sauce. Must try dish.

Fried carrot cake - A different cooking method from what we usually eat in Singapore. The carrot cake looked like it was deep fried before stir frying with other ingredients such as prawns, egg and beansprouts. It taste delicious and fragrant.

Steam Fish Maw with egg yolk - Ok dish only. Order this just to try the taste. Not bad

Custard cake - Eat this while hot, it  does not taste nice when the dish become cold. Multi-layer of custard and cake slices stack together to form this cake. You can taste different flavours in just one bite.

Egg Yolk Custard Bun (奶黄流沙包) - I am telling you, do not visit this eatery without ordering this bun. You will freaking regret it for life. Seriously, this bun is wonderfully delicious. The egg yolk custard filling is not watery, it is semi solid!!!!! WOAH! The taste is just nice, not overly salty. The filling do not stick to the bun itself, they belong to different entity but is a great combination. Die Die must eat dish.

Lemon Grass Drink - Cooling and special in its own way. The straw like thing is actually lemon grass.

HongKong Milk Tea - Smooth texture, really one of its kind which you can find in hongkong

Lemon Barley Drink - Taste not bad, you can try it
