食为先 - Bgan Coffee Shop (Yishun) [Closed]

食为先 - Bgan Coffee Shop

New coffee shop at Yishun ave 11, Bgan Coffee shop. There are lots of food available here, especially the Zi Char stall. Currently, they are offering special promotion for their curry fish head, beancurd and herbal chicken. Hence i decided to try it and see whether are they good anot.

Menu with lots of variety to select

Herbal Steamed Chicken ($8) - With that kind of price, i think it should be worth it. But consider the kind of food that are served to customer, i will suggest not to try out this dish. The meat is overcooked, very little broth and also i cant taste any herbal taste at all.

Mushroom with Broccoli ($8 small) - Normal dish, broccoli and mushrooms are well cooked. Sauce is think and tasty. More importantly is that the mushrooms are big in size and quite alot

Fish Head ($10) - Hmm, not a bad tasting dish. Although it is one side of the head, but there is quite alot of meat and the sauce is like thai style, sweet and sour. Overall quite a decent dish

Creamy Chicken ($10 small) - Well, at one glance i feel that wow this doesnt look bad. However, when i start to take a piece of the chicken, i realise most of the chicken pieces are bony and does not have alot of meat. $10 for such a dish really doesnt worth it. These are all unwanted parts and does not have much meat

Verdict: 3 / 5

Sadly, i didnt really enjoy the food here. The dishes are mostly disappointing and I feel that paying such a price for the food, i can find somewhere better. But still, it is still ok to have your meal here.

The Daily Scoop Ice Cream Cafe

The Daily Scoop Ice Cream Cafe

The Daily Scoop set up their third outlet in the north along the shophouses of Sembawang road. It is located between MacDonald and the famous Chong Pang Nasi Lemak. I went to try out this outlet to see if the standard remain the same.

Vibrant colours and decorations.

Menu selections

recommended by shop staff - Salted Mister Brown. Indeed, very delicious flavour.

Waffle set ($6.40): Buttery moist waffle with a scoop of of their best seller, Salted Mister Brown ice cream, drizzled with chocolate sauce. Waffle was more moist than crisp. Thought not fantastic, but still a decent warm waffle. On the other hand, the Salted Mister Brown was more outstanding and its taste is as fanciful as its name. Taste like salted caramel ice cream with bits of brownie within. Overall experience on the food is disappointing. Waffles are served at different standard. Sometimes cold waffle are served which make me think if the waffles are done before hand. (This is the feedback from my friend)

Avocado Ice Cream with Brownie - Strong avocado taste. Brownie is sweet and soft. Together with the ice cream, the feeling is marvelous.

Verdict: 3/5
Price: $6 onwards

The Daily Scoop is a good place to chill and gather with family and friends after a hearty meal along the shophouses. Do get your dessert craving fixed especially you are staying around the corners.

Pin Si Restaurant (Yishun Safra)

Pin Si Restaurant (Yishun Safra)

Recently went to Pin Si restaurant for my parent birthday celebration. Initially thought there won't be much people for a sunday dinner since this is located in Safra. But i was wrong, there are actually alot of reservations on the list and people are streaming in before 7pm. We order their 10 pax set dinner which cost at $398++. This does not include drinks or rice. If you are a safra member, you get to enjoy 10% off the bill which is quite worth it as you get to earn points for your safra card too. Btw, they can keep your birthday refrigerated, and the staff are willing to help you if you are planning a birthday surprise.

Mixed meat starter - Include roasted duck, Ngoh Hiang, spicy jellyfish, Char Siew and egg platter. The meats are warm and tasty when chew. The Duck meat are thick and tender, not overcooked like what you usually get to eat in a chinese restaurant which no effort are made when roasting the duck. The Ngoh Niang are made of prawn and pork, moist and crispy. I really like this dish, simple and delicious.

Fish maw soup

Steam grouper - Steam fish are always the best when they are fresh. Totally do not need any additive to make it tasty. Wonderful fish. The meat is really soft and fresh.

Ma Po Tofu - Crispy on the outside, nice and soft on the inside. The Tofu are mixed with egg to give a more stable texture so that it wont break off easily. At the same time, it is so tasty that i dont even have to dip into the sauce for extra flavour.

Ma Po Tofu sauce - A bit spicy and sour, use to dip the tofu

Garlic steam prawn with vermicelli - One thing i really like is the chopped garlic that are sprinkled on top of the prawns. It really making it very fragrant. Since this dish are cooked by steaming, the vermicelli really soak up the prawn broth which taste delicious. i can just have the vermicelli alone without any garnish.

Stir fried vegetable with scallops - Crispy vegetables and not overly cooked. There are still crunchiness.

Cabbage with Sea cucumber - Starchy broth but super big piece of sea cucumbers

Fried noodle - Colourful presentation, tasty too

Golden Pumpkin with Yam Paste dessert -  Sweet but not that fantastic.

Last Order:
2pm (Lunch), 10pm (Dinner)

Contact number: 6852 8933

Verdict: 3.5 / 5

Price: $40+ per pax

I must say i really enjoy eating here. The food presented and served are really nice and delicious. I especially like the steam prawns and fish. Since steaming of these seafood really depend on the freshness of the seafood itself, i have no doubt on that after eating them.

Service is fast, usually the next dish will serve after we had finished eating the previous dish. However, staff is not attentive to the requirement for refill of drink, we have to refill our tea ourselves frequently. In addition, the plates are not changed, we used it throughout the whole course.

Price is abit steep, for the same price i can get buffet for dinner. But its the quality of the food that count right? I will still be back again if there is a chance.
