Kam Jia Zhuang Seafood 甘家庄 - Ang Mo Kio

At the beginning, when i heard my mum saying she wanted to have her dinner at Ang Mo Kio Blk 202 zi cha stall, I wondered what was that? I have never heard before. Upon checking up on the internet, this place was actually quite famous after all. Hence, i decided to make a reservation.

On the day for dinner, we went earlier before the reservation time. However, due to an afternoon heavy rain, the earlier reservation slot got delay. My family and I had to wait till our table (which were occupied) for earlier group of customers to leave. Worse still, they were waiting for their food to be served!! However, there were 2 empty tables that were not occupied but we were not allowed to sit on those tables as they are "reserved" and kept for other customers. Didn't we made a reservation too?  So, after much debating, we got our seats.

Sweet & Sour Pork ($15 medium) - For a medium size dish, there is quite a lot of pork garnished with pineapple, green pepper, tomatoes and onions. Although the colour was not bright red, yet it still taste sweet and tasty. Pork cubes are not overly fried and the meat retain its tender texture.

Prawn Paste Chicken Wing ($14 medium) - Everyone's favourite dish.  I must say that these chicken wings are juicy on its inside. I can't really taste and prawn paste on the wings outer skin, but the wings are well marinated.

Yam Ring ($18 medium) - Crispy yam ring filled with fresh prawns, mushroom, meat and vegetables. This is one of Teochew's favourite. Yam's sweetness is just right, not too oily on the outside. Fillings are fresh and yummy too. Recommended if you like yam!!

Teochew style steam fish ( $36) -  Fresh promfret steamed with beancurd, tomatoes, sour plum and preserved vegetables. Appetizing sourly soup with fish combination is always to my liking. I can just finish the whole fish myself.

Do check the price of the fish before ordering.

Sambal Kang Kong ($9 medium) - Abit too salty and too flavourful. The mixture is not balance.

Pumpkin Prawn ($24 medium) - One of the recommended dish. The prawns are big and fresh. De-shelled, mixed with flour before frying. Pumpkin sauce is very appetizing and goes well with the prawn. Highly recommended!!!

Crab Vermicelli ( $66 - Price varies with crab market rate) - Another highly recommended dish. Big Sri Lanka crab with lots of roe!!! Main focus is not on the crab but on the vermicelli. The vermicelli fully absorbed the broth which make it so tasty. Although the dish is a bit wet, it does bring out the savoury taste. Must Try!!

Verdict: 4 / 5

Good food at a cheaper price and not too bad service. I recommend this place for dinner or family gathering. Although I was pissed off by how they manage the seating arrangement, but the staffs did not flare up at us. Kudos to them on their service level.

I will come back again to try their other recommended dishes!!

搵到食 Wen Dao Shi Dim Sum

搵到食 Wen Dao Shi - Sims Avenue

Wen Dao Shi is a famous cantonese dim sum eatery at Geylang which is frequently filled up by dinner and supper crowds.

Prawn Rice Roll 虾肠粉 ($3.80) - Rice roll was nice and smooth and comes with a special sauce which is not too sweet.

Big Prawn Dumpling ($4.80) -  As the name suggest, these dumplings was filled with large and juicy fresh prawns, wrapped with thin skin.

Liu Sha Bao 流沙包 ($4) - Though it was written as liu sha bao on the menu, it was in fact an effortless mini bite-size custard bun which contain corn paste. There was no traces of salted egg yolk or butter taste and the filling was not oozing. The bun suits the children but not for those who are looking for flowy liu sha bao. Coffeeshop serves better custard bun.

Thai-style Fried Crab Dong Fen 干炒泰式 冬粉螃蟹 ($18) - One of the signature must order dish when you are here. Broth was fully absorbed by the glass noodles and it was full of garlic fagrance. Unlike usual Thai glass noodles which was stir fried with brown sauce and starchy, this version of crab glass noodles was one of the best i have tried that is less oily, not starchy and not sticking together towards the end. Crab was fresh and juicy too. The serving was just nice to be shared between 2 to 3.

I would certainly visit this dim sum eatery again as the selection is dim sum is very extensive and there is some popular items that I have yet to try. Do drop by early to avoid the supper crowd.

Prawn roll (Hei Zhou)

Claypot Crab Glass Noodles - Well done non sticky glass noodles which fully soaked up the essence of the sauce.

Restoran De Costa's Portuguese Seafood (Malacca)

Restoran De Costa's Portuguese Seafood (Malacca)

If you happen to visit Malacca, Malaysia, do come here and try their Portuguese food. You will be awe by the food that are served here and the price is cheap too. They are located by the port (un-use now), it is quite breezy and cooling. Enjoy a few bottles of beer too, sit back and relax.... It is easy to come here by cab, but i suggest to have a cab for pick up after the meal as it will be hard to get a cab during late hour.

Outside view

Menu

Seafood available for selection - Mussels ,fishes and Crabs

Fried Calamari - Not impressive by this dish. The calamari is chewy but i do not have the urge to want to have more of it.

Sambal Kangkong - Fresh and spicy. Sliced fishcake and squid are added in too. Serving is big, enough for more than 4 pax.

Stir fried Baby Kai Lan - Sliced fish cake, carrots and baby Kai Lan stir fry together

Salted Egg Crabs - This is really a must try dish. Very tasty with the salted egg flavour. Crab is fresh and the meat is juicy and sweet. Certainly must order. The different between this salted egg crab compare to Singapore version is that the one here is dry version of salted egg while the other is more towards more "wet" kind, more sauce

Portuguese Curry Chicken - A Must try Local dish! Spicy and nice to have it on your rice. The curry is saturated, spicy and sweet. I really like the taste of the curry and the chicken is tender too. Strongly recommended.

Sambal Clams (Big Head clams) - Juicy and sweet. The meat is a bit small compare to the shell.

Verdict: 4 / 5

I give it a rating 4 because of the food that is nice and consider the cheap price. I think it really worth 4the rating. Environment is clean and windy, the only negative point is most of the tables are situated in the open space, so if it rain, there goes your food. Service is quick and prompt, i have no complaint.
